Background: Steven called his mobile phone company and entered into a
12 month contract for a new mobile phone with 1000 free minutes and 250
free texts per month. After 12 months Steven realised he hadn't used
anything like that number of free minutes his contract gave him, so he
decided to ring his mobile provider and see if they could offer a more
appropriate package.
However, upon calling them he was told he has signed up for an 18 month
contract, and that he could not change the deal unless he paid a contract
termination fee. Steven explains:
"I tried to reason with them and explained that I had only agreed to
12 months as I was on a fixed contract in my job and did not know if I
would be able to afford the contract after those 12 months.
Fortunately I had used Record Your Call and I embarrassed them by playing
back the recording of our arrangement made 12 months ago. They agreed to
release me from the deal and I was able to move to another mobile phone
company.
The tactics that these companies employ to try and keep you as a customer
are despicable, and I love Record Your Call for allowing consumers to fight
back and show that we won't accept this type of behaviour!"
